Tom Elkind

I moved to Waban in 1979 with my wife, Lise, and my two now grown children. I was a lawyer in Boston for 40 years, and am now a part-time mediator and arbitrator. Lise was a Spanish teacher at Newton South for many years.
Since 1980 I have been on the board of the entity that oversees the Newton Commonwealth Golf Course for the City, and I was President of the board for 13 years. I have served as a member of the board of the West Suburban YMCA, and as President of the board. I now serve as a trustee of the YMCA. I also am the Treasurer of Waban Common, Inc., the entity that has worked with the City to create Waban Common.
I enjoy many sports. I play golf at a Newton Commonwealth, squash at the YMCA,  tennis at the Windsor Club, and bicycle with Bike Newton.

On several occasions in the past18 years, I have experienced sewer backup in my basement during severe rain storms. I've been told that this is due to the interconnectedness of the storm drainage and sewer lines under ground. I've also been told that the city has a long term plan for correcting this problem. I would like to know if this is being monitored by the Waban Area Council, and if so, if there have been any updates on the work.
