Kathryn Winters - Pres
Kathy Winters has lived in Waban with her family for the past fifteen years. She is an attorney who worked in the field of corporate tax prior to leaving the law to raise her four children. Over the years Kathy has used her legal skills in a variety of ways through volunteer work. She has been active in a range of community organizations and has served on various boards, including the Board of Directors of the Windsor Club and the Parish Pastoral Council of Sacred Heart Parish. Currently she serves on the board of directors of Flying Kites, an organization that runs a top-tier school and home for orphaned and critically-poor students in Njabini, Kenya.
In her first year on the Waban Area Council, Kathy was active in drafting the Council's organizational documents and in working on issues related to housing developments in Newton. Specifically, she helped to develop and moderated a panel discussion to educate residents on the permitting process for affordable housing developments and Newton, and has been active in keeping Waban residents informed of the status of a potential housing development at the former St. Philip Neri site. Kathy believes that the Waban Area Council's most important function is to serve as an information conduit between residents and the government of the City of Newton.
